Well Guys. My first Super Major GT comes to an end for me. I set out a "lofty" goal of ONE win. I can happily say, that I BLEW MY GOAL OUT OF THE WATER!!!!!!!!!!
I GOT 2 WINS!!!!!!!!
Here are my scores:
Game 1: Loss 33 to 14
Game 2: Loss 30 to 20
Game 3: Loss 31 to 11
Game 4: Win 35 to 16
Game 5: Win 25 to 24
Game 6: Loss 28 to 24
1) "IRONBAD DERPNAUGHT" will now forever be named "IRONBAT SLAMNAUGHT!" - In his very first game HE KILLED 600 POINTS worth of stuff (3 keepers of secret, and maybe a discolord)! He nearly killed one keeper of secrets in one swing, but made a single FNP to make him live with 1 wound. IRONBAT died, but "Only in Death Does Duty End" finished the job.
2) Heroic Intervention within melee - A tactic I heard (Which came in handy) is a legal and interesting use of Heroic Intervention. Because Heroic Intervention works in the charge phase, you can technically have a character in melee combat do a heroic intervention. The caveat to prevent this, is to be in base to base combat, because the character at that point cannot physically move to do the heroic intervention.
3) Surprisingly, I only fought 1 full Space Marines List. I fought Chaos Soup, Ad-Mech, Dark Eldar, Ultramarines, Imperium Soup (Battalion RG sucessors, Krast Knight with 2 helverns, Guard Battalion with 2 Tank Commanders), and Grey Knights. These were all super different each game, with all really awesome opponents. Very much what we normally do at our club.
4) Overall, my list was much more of a TAC list than a counter-charge list. No one was really coming up to me immediately to match what my plan was. So I had to adapt. This lead to an overall change in some litanies and psychic powers and ultimately saved me a CP or two.
5) OMFG GREY KNIGHTS! - My final opponent had grey knights, and I was nearly tabled. I was very caught off guard by what he list could do. Turn 2, he Astral Aimed his Land Raider to kill my thunderfire cannon outright. The terrain did help him dramatically, but it was a rough, bloody, and excellent game. I pretty much figured out one way to build grey knights. That was my final loss at 28 to 24.
6) Lone LT made my record 2W/4L instead of 1W/5L by tanking a thunderfire cannon in Game 5 - (OPPONENT'S VIEW, last turn of the game) I NEED to kill this LT to reduce his score enough so I can win.
Thunderfire Cannon to LT
Rolls 12 shots
Gets 10 Hits
Rolls 7 wounds
LT Rolls 4 4+'s (was in cover). He is alive with 1, and the game ends.
7) Game 1 - Techmarine Gunner killed a discolord in melee with 2 servo arm swings.

Re: LVO Tournament Summary
It is definitely a different atmosphere. I had great games, because my opponents were awesome. I can't say the same for every one else at the tournament. There were lists (Outside of the 'Bro-Viathan" list) that just looked absolutely mean and screamed "IM A BAD PERSON!" but I am not near the skill level of those tables.
Outside of the games themselves, the environment was "not the best". The hotel blocks all outside food and drink in the convention area, so you have to wait in super-long lines for not the best food. Depending on where your room is, you have to walk through the casino area where everyone is smoking. And expect to be ripped off on food. 4 pieces of chicken and an alcoholic cocktail at an open air food court ran me $25.
Overall, playing the games were very fun and enjoyable, but everything else was "meh".

Re: LVO Tournament Summary
There was one list that was imperial fists. It was running 3 whirlwind Scorpius (Heavy 6D3 S6 AP-2/-3, 2D/3D for vehicles), 3 regular Whirlwinds, 3 thunderfires cannons, Stalker bolter intercessors, a master of the forge with aura vehicles get +1Hit, and a chapter master with lieutenant aura also.
In summary, everything was hiding out of line of sight, and was hitting on 2+ re-rolling everything, wounding with a re-rolls of 1, 2+ damage against most things.

Re: LVO Tournament Summary
Indeed. This is not saying that every list will be mean like this. Each person will try to bring their "meanest" list at these big tournaments, but it is also a matter of how you play your list and how well you deal with tough situations. I have had some really strong lists I had to fight against, but they were all super fun opponents.Ukromarine wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 1:51 pmWell that just meanConnman234 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 1:03 pmThere was one list that was imperial fists.
