Salamanders, 8th Company

Postby Sandtiger » Thu Feb 16, 2017 12:03 am

Editor's note: I was previously unaware of the fact that during the 41st Millenium, the Salamanders started a 7th Company. According to Lexicanum, “As of 980.M41, following the events of the Dragon Strife in 975.M41, the Salamanders began the inception of a 7th Battle Company - an event which has not occurred since before the 2nd Founding.” It seems pretty reasonable that after the 42nd millennium happens, they would start an 8th company with existing troops and new Primaris troops. This actually plays very well into my original desire to make a totally homebrew Company so I'm going to rewrite some stuff to reflect their ongoing exploits.

Possible guest characters: Chapter Master Tu'Shan and his Firedrakes team, Chief Librarian Vel'cona.

Vulkan He'stan - Salamanders Forgefather, traveling with the 8th Company in search of Salamanders relics and helping them on Cadia.

Chaplain Rhy'tan Themian - Chaplain of the 8th Company. Has Terminator Armor, a Storm Bolter, and Crozius Arcanum.

Captain Sandtiger Emberdrake - Former champion duelist of the 8th Company. Wielded a Master-Crafted Power Sword and a Combat Shield as Company Champion. Now wields Relic Sword and Plasma Pistol as Captain. Promoted to Captain for valor in battle during the Fate of Konor campaign.

Epistolary Do'shan Blackfist, in Terminator Armor with a Force Staff - Chief Librarian of the 8th Company.

Epistolary Mercurion Ru'than - Long-lost Battle Brother of the Librarius, returned to the Salamanders as a Primaris Librarian after he was revealed to have been altered by Belisarius Cawl into a Primaris marine. Attached to 8th Company as junior Librarian.

Primaris Lieutenant Dak'el Pyrewreath - Long-lost Battle Brother, returned to the Salamanders as a Primaris Marine after the events of the Indomitus Crusade, now serving as Captain Sandtiger's second in command.

Company Champion Solarion Pyre - Captain Sandtiger's successor as 8th Company Champion. Serves in the Command Squad.

Apothecary Val'rek Fireborn - Apothecary of the 8th Company. Serves in the Command Squad.

Standard Bearer Kor'narth Ash - Standard Bearer of the 8th Company. Serves in the Command Squad.

Sergeant Kar'gath Tycho - Leader of 1st Tactical Squad, combi-weapon and Thunder Hammer.

Sergeant Sol - Leader of 2nd Tactical Squad, combi-weapon.

Fate of Konor Week 1

Vulkan He’stan and the Salamanders 8th Company have been embroiled in the massive events after Cadia, participating in the defense of the Konor system when Chaos struck Astaramis. Leading the 3rd Company, including Company Champion Sandtiger, in their march towards reinforcing their Ultramarine allies, Vulkan received a cryptic message. It informed him that the Inquisition would like to speak with him about suspicious things they had heard about the Tome of Vel’cona. Bristling with indignation, Vulkan and the Salamanders protested that such was not possible; the Tome of Vel’cona was a chapter artifact, and would not be turned over for any reason. Inquisitor Karamazov was not satisfied, and demanded to judge for himself. Vulkan ordered Chief Librarian Vel’cona back to their Battle Barge while he and Company Champion Sandtiger took two teams of Tactical Marines to meet Karamazov and the Inquisition at an agreed-upon location.

My Lord Inquisitor Karamazov,

I bid you greetings, brother. In accordance with your voiced concerns on the strange and likely heretical arts performed by the Chief Librarian of the Salamanders, I immediately set forth with a suitable force of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers. I finally caught up with them on the world of Astaramis, as they made to join forces with those of the Ultramarines chapter fighting to repulse the foul Chaos and Xenos presences on the planets of the Tehrakis Gap. We took them by ambush and a short skirmish ensued, with heavy losses on both sides. However, in the end, they ensured I had to listen carefully to their explanations in regards to these...strange abilities.

According to their commanding officer, one Chapter Champion Sandtiger, these arts are due entirely to The Tome of Vel'cona, an ancient artifact and chapter relic, and as such were not heretical or Chaos-tainted in the least. While I was of course skeptical (a convenient claim to make, after all, when one has the Inquisition on one's trail), I sensed no deception or taint upon the initial Salamander force. We now make our way to reinforce Imperial forces in defending and expanding our territories within The Gap. Send reinforcements of suitable strength and faith, for even if we should succeed against the overt enemy, Emperor only know what foulness has seeped into these worlds during the conflict.

Walk Always In The Emperor's Light,

Inquisitor Coteaz

Fate of Konor, Week 2

Forgefather’s Log, 13th Black Crusade: Konor

The fighting on Astaramis has ended, and we have been detailed to assist the planet of Konor, after our… disagreement… with the Inquisition was settled. Lord Guilliman has ordered the 3rd Company to The Neck, a formerly verdant area with many crops. Mortarion’s Death Guard turned those crop lands into disease-ridden swamps of despair in their initial assault, and Lord Guilliman was forced to burn them wholesale to clear the area and make it even minimally safe for us to land. A warband of Chaos Space Marines of unknown affiliation has been seen marauding in the area, led by a Chaos Lord and a Helbrute, and we have been assigned to find and destroy them. Into the fires of battle, unto the anvil of war!

(Postgame)

Forgefather’s Log, 13th Black Crusade: Konor

I am pleased to report a wholly successful mission. We cornered the marauding Iron Warriors warband, after a hunt of the area, before they could attempt to burn one of the few remaining churches devoted to the Emperor. Our melta shots decimated the Helbrute before it could do any damage at all to us, and its smoking corpse crumbled away into dust under our boots. Terminators teleported in to harry us, forcing me to bring in our own reserves from the building we had hidden them in. A brutal fight ensued with them, and they killed all five of the brave marines who engaged with them. The remainder of the warband took shelter in the ruins of a building, but we pressed our advantage upon them, using flamers to burn them out and forcing the Chaos Lord to emerge. He immediately shot and wounded our Apothecary badly, enraging Company Champion Sandtiger. He charged the Chaos Lord, and in a flurry of superb blade skill, killed the Chaos Lord. By this time the flames in the building had forced both our marines and the remaining Chaos marines out of action. The Terminators loomed out of the darkness of the building’s smoke however, charging Sandtiger and trying to corner him against a wall. Everyone else was too far away to help him. By himself, he fought three Terminators to a standstill, and then killed them all. I have told him I will be recommending him to be promoted to Captain immediately upon my return to our Battle Barge, as such swordsmanship skill is truly inspiring.
