Reopening Updates - COVID-19, Social Distancing, and You!

Postby Memento » Fri Mar 13, 2020 10:56 am

Hey Everyone,

As I'm sure you're all aware, the global spread of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has reached us here locally. There are reports of a few cases within the metro-Boston area and many businesses across the state have been encouraging their employees to work from home as much as possible. The situation here is evolving rapidly and there's a lot of uncertainty right now.

It's become clear that it would be irresponsible of us - as a community - if we failed to take protective measures to keep ourselves healthy and to avoid spreading the virus. Fortunately, the one protective measure that we have direct control over is social distancing. Simply by avoiding large gatherings we can help slow the rate at which the virus spreads. It the recommendation of the Officer Corps that members avoid congregating in public spaces, as possible for the duration of the outbreak. We realize that this is an ambiguous period of time and only ask that each individual make the best decisions for themselves and their communit(ies).

For the next three weeks (until 3 April), no Grimdark Gaming Officers will be in attendance of our regularly scheduled game days or planned events. This does mean that we'll be postponing our upcoming Spring Cleaning Day until further notice.

We would like to encourage members to continue to support local businesses as much as they are able - but would recommend against gatherings for games or other extended social events.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to drop them in the thread below or reach out through PMs.

Please stay safe and healthy!

From my facebook feed. TLDR the gaming area is closed and there are more options for reduced or free shipping locally. Still open for business otherwise.

Hobby Bunker, Inc.
The store remains open and we are still shipping packages everyday. We We all have our hobbies to keep us busy in this time of fear and stress. I painted for about 20 minutes after watching the news to decompress. We have also been keeping up with restocking shelves, cleaning counters, door handles, etc. We have closed the gaming area - no in store gaming until further notice. Use your discretion, if your sick stay home, if you are healthy come on down we could use the business. We appreciate your business and support through these tough times.

We are also shipping every day worldwide. Post Office, UPS and DHL.

As of today the Wings and Wheels IPMS Modelling show scheduled for the end of the month has been canceled.

The NETSS Show April 5th is still scheduled. If something changes we will let you know.
The MFCA Show and Mart I believe was canceled.

China delays. We have are experiencing this through are partners and also have had things slowed by strange customs forms and requests.

SHIPPING - Although we have not incorporated this into our shopping cart we will not be offering free shipping on Formtech/Hobby Bunker Foam Products, some Die-cast and large items. We will update you on how this will work. We are just getting creamed on oversized shipping costs and we have to pass some of this on to you unfortunately. Standard shipping is now $9.99 and International orders $25.00

You can use code FREE100 for US orders over $100.00*
unless a large item as mentioned above is ordered.

SPECIAL DURING THIS Month and maybe beyond. If you are in NEW England we will do free shipping on phone orders over $50.00* unless in case of an oversize item. This is for our locals who can't make it into the shop. Paints, Games, Models etc.....most of which is not listed on our website.
I am also offering to drop stuff off in Malden, Melrose, Stoneham and Wakefield on my way home from work (minimum $25.00) for free through the end of the month. Prepay with paypal or CC through email or phone.
Game Preferences:
Current Beta rules in effect
I'm happy to play lower points levels with people who are staring out or building up new forces

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

I have received an update from the owner of Hobby Bunker. Below is his message to me.

"The City has approved us to do contact-less pick ups here. Prepay and pick up outside our lower door.
Games Workshop just shipped our end of March order. So we should have some 'Prophecy of the Wolf' and 'Saga of the Beast' and some restocks by the end of the week.
We can also now place customer orders."

Hey Everyone,

The last few months have been interesting to say the least - and I hope that everyone in our community has been safe and healthy during the lockdown. As I'm sure you're all aware, Massachusetts has begun its multi-phase reopening of businesses and operations across the state under strict social distancing guidelines. Now that our lockdown measures are beginning to ease, I know many of you are wondering what the club is going to do from here. The Officers have been in constant discussion and while we're still working our way through crafting a plan, we can speak to the following topics:

Memberships
Grimdark Gaming will extend the memberships of any current members for the duration of 2020 and will be waiving the renewal fee. We will be accepting new members through the end of 2020 for a nominal fee of $5 with proceeds going to maintaining club assets (i.e. the forums). Please contact Spencer (Connman234 - either here or Discord).

We are working on developing the Grimdark Gaming Discord Server into more of an online community with planned features including Club Member roles and members-only spaces - we're open to suggestions in this regard.

Club Gatherings & Continuing to Stay Safe
The Hobby Bunker has announced plans to offer gaming tables for players beginning this weekend. Their current plan is to offer 4 to 5 tables, with two players per table for 3 hour time slots. Tables are available by appointment only and sign-ups are made by calling the store.

Our official position as a club is that there are currently too many unknowns regarding the current state of the COVID pandemic for us to fully endorse in-person gaming at this time. Though metrics indicate that Massachusetts is doing comparatively well in dealing with the virus, nothing about the virology or its treatment has substantially changed so it is the continued recommendation of the Officer Corps that members avoid congregating in public spaces, as possible. We realize that this continues to be an ambiguous and uncertain time and that this period of prolonged isolation is difficult. We only ask that each individual make the best decisions for themselves and their communit(ies).

The strongest countermeasure that we can take against the continued spread of this virus is to maintain social distancing. But if you do go out, continue to follow state guidelines and wear an appropriately fitting mask that covers both your nose and mouth. If you do decide to sign-up for an in-person game, please follow store instructions on maintaining safe distances, mask usage, and limit your total table time to the allotted time slot.

Please continue to support local businesses, such as the Hobby Bunker, as much as you are able. Games Workshop (and other companies) have resumed their operations with local retailers so we want to encourage purchasing your hobby supplies or models from the Bunker instead of through online retailers.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to drop them in the thread below or reach out through PMs.

Please stay safe and healthy!

Similar question here - I neglected to renew my membership earlier this year so mine expired Dec 31. I'll gladly give $5 to get it going again, just let me know how to do that.

Good questions, both. Please reach out to our Treasurer, Spencer (Connman234), either here or on Discord. We can currently do PayPal transactions - or if you prefer to cash, we're happy to wait in good faith until such a time when it's safe. Honestly, funds are not critical for us so new membership at this stage is more of a gesture of support for what we have all built together as a community.
